Our HISTORY

Agnes Water/Seventeen Seventy is situated io the Central Coast Wide Bay Region between Bundaberg & Gladstone

In 2009 the Sailing club at 1770 was donated a wooden 20person dragon boat called Cameron. At first the dragon boat was purely used for a sunset & fun paddle on the beautiful waters of Round Hill Creek 1770. Then it decided to could run a joint club for both Sailing & Dragon boating. With very little knowledge of dragon boating a few dedicated people started having sessions mainly for fitness, fun & friendships. With the backing of Bendigo Bank, a “Come & Try” day was held & more people became involved.

Eventually the two clubs separated & just operated officially as a Dragon Boat club. The club became affiliated with Dragon Boat Queensland in 2010 & over the years the club has grown at times, having 60 members, with two 20person, a 10person boat & outriggers of various sizes to cross train in.

The club trains three times a week on the pristine waters of Bustard Bay, Seventeen Seventy.  The outriggers are used for extra cross training & social paddles by our members.

At present there are about 45 members of all ages and fitness levels, and new paddlers are always welcome. Over the last few years our club has medalled at National and State Titles. Our 1770 dragons have competed successfully in the Wide Bay Series Regattas 2010 through to 2023. Each year we run our Wide Bay regatta at the Air, Sea & Rescue Park 1770 foreshore.

We believe that our Compassion, care, support, & friendship to each other not to mention our social interactions bind us into a strong, dedicated club. We are very community involved & our members volunteer at many other local events. The club are sponsored by many of the local business.
